Business, Sustainability & Society in Munich
Experience old-world charm and modern innovation during a semester studying abroad in Munich, Germany. While living in the iconic capital of Bavaria, expert professors will lead your coursework at EF’s Study Center and Hochschule Fresenius. Group excursions
These immersive visits will provide deeper insights into your host country, allow you to explore different regions, and create immersive learning opportunities.
Travel by train to Leipzig and Dresden, two beautiful and historic cities in the northeast of Germany that serve as major industrial hubs. In addition to learning about music, art, and history, you’ll explore sustainability and automation as they relate to Germany’s automobile industry during visits to the Volkswagen Transparent Factory and the BMW Factory.
Cross the border into the Czech Republic to learn about the city’s history—from the medieval era all the way through communism and the Velvet Revolution. Enjoy Prague’s rich musical heritage, stunning architecture, and vibrant modern economy.
Take time to reflect at Dachau, a WWII Nazi concentration camp built in 1935. Today, it serves as a powerful memorial museum, where you can learn about the lives and suffering of the political prisoners, Jews, and other Europeans who were imprisoned there.
Throughout the semester, connect your curriculum to the world around you alongside industry experts during course-specific field visits, such as meeting with a global business executive in Munich.

Coursework

Students will jumpstart their journeys with an immersive German language course at our EF Study Center. After being placed in the class that aligns with their skill levels, students will dive into coursework alongside learners from around the world and continue honing their language skills both in and out of the classroom.

During this EF-led course, students will examine their place in the world as they explore what matters to them, what they believe in, and what they want to achieve. Through reflection and engagement with their peers and the local community, students will learn to work through differences to address challenges related to the economy, environment, politics, education, technology, and society.

Throughout this course, students will be introduced to theories and methods of global political economy. They will be prompted to explore topics and case studies related to the global financial system, inequity and redistribution, and international trade systems.

This course provides an introduction to key concepts that guide ethical decision-making and sustainable development on a global scale. Students will explore the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability, as well as their applications in global governance and policy.

During this course, students will explore Germany’s past, present, and future as they relate to our larger world. Students will explore the role Germany has played throughout the globalization process and how its role is shifting throughout recent geopolitical crises and economic difficulties—all while considering what is next for Germany, the EU, and the world.
